USCIS Filing Fees are Increasing Oct. 2, 2020

USCIS fees are going up on average 20%. But for people who want to become a U.S. citizen, they are going to be hit especially hard. Right now it costs $640 to file the N-400 Citizenship form. The new fee is going to be a whopping $1170. That’s an increase of 83%. It doesn’t seem right or fair to increase this particular application so much. Becoming a U.S. citizen gives you lots more rights and opportunities. Check out my Top 5 Reasons to Get Your Citizenship.

So here is what we are doing to combat this.

We are offering a FREE Pre-Qualification Quiz to get you started on your citizenship application right away!

If you qualify, you will NOT have to book an immigration consultation with us, thus saving you more time and more money.

If you think you might qualify for citizenship, but you’ve been sitting on the fence, then NOW IS THE TIME! We have a streamlined process so that we can get your case filed quickly!

The first step is to complete our Free Naturalization Quiz to determine if you qualify. This means you do NOT have to pay for an immigration consultation. Already you are saving $90 on the consultation fee.

Once you are pre-qualified, we will arrange a phone meeting with you to explain the steps and answer any further questions. There is NO FEE for this call! If you are satisfied that you wish to proceed, then we will get you signed up so we can get to work.

You must sign up for a Naturalization case by Sept. 15, 2020 in order for us to get your case filed before Oct. 2, 2020.

Marriage Green Card Cases Going Up Too!

It’s not just Naturalization fees that are increasing substantially. To file a marriage green card case is also going to cost considerably more. Don’t be fooled by some of the fees for this case type actually going down. The key is that USCIS has now “unbundled” the forms so that you have to pay more!

Here are the USCIS filing fees right now if you are doing a family green card package for your spouse:

I-130 Family Petition = $535
I-485 Green Card = $1140
Biometrics Fee = $85
I-765 Work Permit = no charge with your green card application
I-131 Travel Permit = no charge with your green card application
TOTAL FILING FEES NOW = $1760

Here’s how it will work starting Oct. 2, 2020:

I-130 Family Petition = $560 (it’s $25 more)
I-485 Green Card = $1130 (it’s $10 less)
Biometrics Fee = $30 (it’s $55 less)
I-765 Work Permit = $550 (now have to pay extra)
I-131 Travel Permit = $590 (now have to pay extra)
TOTAL NEW FILING FEES = $2860

That’s an increase of $1100 to file a marriage green card case!

Now, you could save money by foregoing the work permit and travel permit, but that’s really not an option. Can you afford to wait a year or longer before you can work in the USA? What if one of your family members gets sick back home? Do you really want to be stuck in the USA with no ability to leave for a year or longer? Because that’s about how long it takes to get your green card, a year or more!

You must sign up with us by Sept. 1, 2020 for your green card case so that we can get your file sent out before Oct. 2, 2020.

Because of the complexity of this type of case, we do need you to book a consultation. Our fee is only $90 for a 30-minute phone consultation with Nadine Heitz, your immigration lawyer.

Save money before the filing fees go up!

Why are fees increasing like this?

It’s certainly legitimate for USCIS to increase their fees. The agency is totally funded on filing fees, they do not get federal funding. And the last time they increased fees was 2016 and the time before that it was 2010. Plus, the pandemic has resulted in less people submitting cases so filing fees are down.

But here is the truth. Specific types of applications are being singled out. First, the Naturalization application is going up by 83% – it’s no coincidence that this application is targeted with such a high increase when the average weighted fee increase of all applications is only 20%. This administration wants to DISCOURAGE immigrants from becoming U.S. citizens! Why? Because these new citizens are increasing in numbers and they tend to vote Democrat!

Second, for the family green card cases, this administration wants to DISCOURAGE immigrants from getting a green card. If they can’t work while waiting for the lengthy green card process, then perhaps they won’t even apply!

If you are thinking of filing your immigration green card case, please contact us as soon as possible. After Sept. 1, 2020 we may not be able to guarantee your case will get filed before Oct. 2, 2020 when the filing fees increase!
